STOP-GAP's Alternative Training Program towards Registry as a Drama Therapist (RDT)

The STOP-GAP Institute is pleased to offer an Alternative Training Program for Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) candidates. In 1997, The National Association of Drama Therapy created the Alternative Training Program to enable individuals outside of the approved graduate programs in drama therapy (New York University and California Institute for Integral Studies) to satisfy the educational requirements for the RDT.

The STOP-GAP Alternative Training Program is under the supervision of Don R. Laffoon, M.A., RDT/BCT. Don's Board Certification allows him to offer training through academic courses and internships. As an advisor, Don may also design, monitor and assess individual students' programs and progress.

Academic Requirements for Alternative Training Program:
The candidate must hold an undergraduate degree plus an M.A. or M.A. in progress in order to embark on an Alternative Training Program. (The M.A. must be in either theatre, psychology, or a related field.) Each program of study will be designed in accordance with the needs of the individual and the standards of N.A.D.T., and will include core curriculum courses in psychology and drama therapy.
